Velva Taylor Spriggs, MSW, LISW

Velva Taylor Spriggs, a social worker since 1969, is currently chair of the District of Columbia Board of Social Work. Her discipline is in community organization, which is now referred to in some educational circles as macro social work. Much of her career has been spent organizing communities to address social problems, with a considerable amount of time in the field of children’s mental health, both as a parent in the co-founding of a family advocacy and support organization in the District of Columbia and as an administrator in local, state, and federal agency systems.  She is a former Peace Corps Volunteer, having served in Latin America and later training other Peace Corps Volunteers throughout the United States.
