
Bob McKinney, Ph.D., LICSW-S, C-IAYT, is a licensed, clinical social worker and registered yoga therapist at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. He earned the PHD and MSW from the University of Alabama School of Social Work and the BA in philosophy from Mississippi State University. He is an associate professor of behavioral medicine in the College of Community Health Sciences (CCHS) Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health and an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine Department of Medical Education. At CCHS, Dr. Bob teaches family medicine residents, medical students, social work students, and learners from myriad other training programs about the social determinants of health (SDOH). He also teaches three doctoral courses for the University of Alabama School of Social Work: social work supervision; complimentary, alternative, and integrative medicine; and trauma-informed social work practice. In 2020, he was appointed by Governor Kay Ivey to the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners.
Dr. Bob and his wife, Brandi, live in Tuscaloosa, where they have the joy of being the parents of two of the coolest kids ever. When he isn’t talking about SDOH, he likes to talk about his family, yoga, yoga therapy, music, vegetarian food, and travel.
