Elizabeth Pope, LICSW

Elizabeth Pope is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 20 years of social work practice experience and a wide range of knowledge and expertise in the social work profession. Elizabeth obtained her Bachelors of Social Work (BSW) from Johnson C. Smith University and acquired a Master’s of Social Work (MSW) with specialization in Mental Health from the Joint Masters of Social Work Program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. 

Prior to working in social work licensing and regulation, Elizabeth practiced clinical social work in a variety of settings to include outpatient and inpatient treatment settings, residential treatment facilities, therapeutic foster care and community mental health programs.

More recently, Elizabeth served two consecutive terms from 2020-2024 on the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Board of Directors and currently serves on the Council of Licensure and Regulation’s (CLEAR) Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee and the International Relations Committee. 

Elizabeth is currently the Executive Director for the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board where she serves as primary liaison between the board, state government, professional associations, licensees, clinical supervisors and the general public. In her role as executive director, she also serves as ethics liaison for the North Carolina Ethics Commission and legislative liaison for the state of North Carolina.
